Sign-in approvals you did not start

An approval prompt on your phone means someone has your password and is trying to sign in. Repeated prompts try to wear you down.

How to spot it

  • An approve-sign-in prompt when you are not signing in
  • Several prompts in a row
  • A message asking you to approve the next prompt

What to do

Deny the prompt, change your password from the real site or app, and tell IT or the account owner.

What the real thing looks like

  • One prompt right after you typed your password yourself
  • A new-sign-in notice that asks you to do nothing unless it was not you
