Remote-access requests
A caller, chat or pop-up asks you to install or open a remote tool so a stranger can control your computer.
How to spot it
- A new remote tool to download
- Asked to read out a session ID or allow a connection you did not ask for
What to do
Allow remote access only when you started the contact, on the number you already have, through the tool your workplace already uses.
What the real thing looks like
- A session you asked for by calling your IT provider on the number on file
